He du Schwuchtel !!!"

+++ UFO files and their flights of fancy +++

++ Schlagzeilen wie "Churchill ´feared panic over UFOs´", "Did Winston Churchill order a UFO cover-up?", "Historic Files Show Churchill UFO Cover-Up" oder so sind so NICHT richtig ++

Die Ticker-Drähte glühten deswegen also.

So meldete die BBC ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10853905 ):

>Churchill ordered UFO cover-up, National Archives show - Spotters often drew what they saw and sent pictures to the MoD

The government took the threat of UFOs so seriously in the 1950s that UK intelligence chiefs met to discuss the issue, newly-released files show. Ministers even went on to commission weekly reports on UFO sightings from a committee of intelligence experts. The papers also include a wartime account claiming prime minister Winston Churchill ordered a UFO sighting be kept secret to prevent "mass panic". The files show reports of UFOs peaked in 1996 - when The X Files was popular. The Joint Intelligence Committee is better known for providing briefings to the government on matters relating to security, defence and foreign affairs.

But the latest batch of UFO files released from the Ministry of Defence to the National Archives shows that, in 1957, the committee received reports detailing an average of one UFO sighting a week. The files also include an account of a wartime meeting attended by Winston Churchill in which, it is claimed, the prime minister was so concerned about a reported encounter between a UFO {unidententifiziertes Flugobjekt, aber damals gab es den Begriff noch nicht und man nannte die Lichter in der Nacht Foo Fighters - da gab es das SF-Kinobildimage von den ´Flying Saucers´ noch nicht, was dann erst George Adamski aufgriff und die ´Scoutships´ von der Venus auf uns losließ!} and RAF bombers, that he ordered it be kept secret for at least 50 years to prevent "mass panic".

X Files

Nick Pope, who used to investigate UFO sightings for the MoD, said: "The interesting thing is that most of the UFO files from that period have been destroyed {Warum? But what happened is that a scientist whose grandfather was one of his [Churchill´s] bodyguards, said look, Churchill and Eisenhower got together to cover up this phenomenal {?- wieso war außer dem Einbringen dieses Reizwortes als Show-Worthülse diese eine Foo Fighter-Sichtung von vielen jetzt ausgerechnet "phänomal"} UFO sighting, that was witnessed by an RAF crew on their way back from a bombing raid {eine Aufklärungmission zur Lagesondering ist keine Bombenabwurfmission, dies hört sich aber weitaus dramatischer an!}. The reason apparently was because Churchill believed it would cause mass panic and it would shatter people´s religious views." Reports of sightings of UFOs peaked in 1996 in the UK {in Germany 2008} - when science fiction drama The X Files was popular. According to the files, there were more than 600 reports in 1996 (bei uns waren es 1.800 wegen der verdammten Himmelslaternen; ach so den medialen UFOs in England}, compared with an average of 240 in the previous five years. UFOs have become the third-most popular subject for people to write to the ministry of defence saying please could you release this file."

Dr David Clarke: National Archives UFO consultant

The figures for 1996 show 609 reported sightings of unidentified flying objects, 343 letters from the public to the MoD´s UFO desk and 22 enquiries and questions from MPs. But by 2009, the MoD´s UFO inquiry desk -Sec(AS)2 - had been closed down. The 18 files released on Thursday are the latest to come out as part of a three-year project between the MoD and the National Archives.

Dr David Clarke, a UFO consultant to the National Archives, explained why the papers are being made public now. Dr Clarke told the BBC: "Since the Freedom of Information Act arrived in 2005, this subject - UFOs - have become the third-most popular subject for people to write to the Ministry of Defence saying ´please could you release this file, or papers that you hold on this particular case´. What they´ve decided to do is to be totally open and to say, ´look we´re not holding any secrets back about this subject we´ve got all these files and we´re going to make them available to the public´." One includes details on "aerial phenomena" prepared for a meeting of the Cabinet Office´s Joint Intelligence Committee in April 1957. According to a note included in the Red Book, the weekly intelligence survey, four incidents involving UFOs tracked by RAF radars were "unexplained".

´Spaceman´

The documents also include reports of a famous incident dubbed the "Welsh Roswell" in 1974, where members of the public reported seeing lights in the sky and feeling a tremor in the ground.

Other cases included in the files are:

A near-miss with an "unidentified object" reported by the captain and first officer of a 737 plane approaching Manchester Airport in 1995.

A mountain rescue team called to investigate a "crashed UFO" in the Berwyn Mountains in Wales in 1974.

Attempted break-ins at RAF Rudloe Manor in Wiltshire - sometimes referred to as Britain´s "Area 51" - the US´s secretive desert military base.

The Western Isles incident, when a loud explosion was reported in the sky over the Atlantic in the Outer Hebrides.

The 14-minutes of "missing" film relating to the Blue Streak missile test launch in 1964, believed by some to show a "spaceman".

A gambler from Leeds who held a 100-1 bet on alien life being discovered before the end of the 20th Century, and who approached the government for evidence to support his claim after the bookmakers refused to pay out. The MoD said it was open-minded about extra-terrestrial life but had no evidence of its existence.

The files come from more than 5,000 pages of UFO reports and letters and drawings from members of the public, as well as questions raised by MPs in Parliament. They are available to download for free for a month from The National Archives website - http://ufos.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ <

Dort wird man gleich an ein Audio von David Clarke verwiesen, welcher sich zu den neuen UFO-Aktenbergen äußert; "Dr Clarke highlights some of the files´ most interesting reports, explaining their significance to trends in UFO sightings and how they were dealt with by the Ministry of Defence." - http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/... .

>Files reveal pilot´s ´near miss´ with UFO at airport

A ´near miss´ between a passenger plane and a UFO near Manchester Airport is included in a number of secret files released by the government. The close encounter was officially reported by the flight crew of a Boeing 737 back in January 1995. The pilot and first officer of the plane described seeing a large grey object fly so close past the plane it made them duck. It´s one of a number of MoD files documenting alleged UFO sightings.

´Ducked´

The alleged incident on 6 January 1995 involving a passenger plane in the night sky above Manchester is included in the latest batch of MoD files documenting alleged UFO sightings now released by the National Archives. What makes this particular incident interesting is the credibility of the witnesses: the pilot and first officer of a British Airways aircraft who reported it as an ´air miss´. "I saw a lighted object fly down the right hand side of the aircraft at high speed in the opposite direction."

BA pilot

In a detailed report to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the pilot confirmed that he was about 4,000 feet up over the Pennines, eight or nine miles south east of Manchester Airport, when the two men both saw something flash past the cockpit window. The pilot described seeing a ´lighted object fly down the right hand side of the aircraft at high speed in the opposite direction.´ His first officer - who instinctively ´ducked´ as it went by - said it was a ´wedge-shaped´ object possibly with a black stripe down the side which he estimated was ´between a light aircraft and Jetstream´ (a small passenger plane) in size. According to the CAA´s Airmiss Working Party report, the captain and the first officer drew what they had seen. The pilot was convinced it had ´a number of small, white lights, rather like a Christmas tree´ adding that he was able to track the object for around two seconds looking through the windscreen and side window. Both were convinced that what they had seen was ´a solid object and not a [meteorological] phenomenon, balloon or any other craft´ with which they were familiar, including a Stealth bomber {! The investigation failed to identify the object {!

X Files

The National Archive files also contains a sketch by a member of the public showing a UFO allegedly seen from the ground on the same day as the near miss with the Boeing aircraft.

A British Airways Boeing 737

The captain and first officer reported seeing the UFO

It showed an oblong craft with a curved front and a series of small nozzles at the rear. However, a UFO expert who sent the sketches to the MoD said he was "a little dubious" about aspects of the report, including a claim that the object was "20 times the size of a football field."

The 18 UFO files released on 5 August 2010 are the latest to come out as part of a three-year project between the MoD and the National Archives. The files are made up of more than 5,000 reports, letters and drawings from members of the public. Reports of sightings of UFOs peaked in 1996 in the UK - when science fiction drama The X Files was popular. According to the files, there were more than 600 reports in 1996, compared with an average of 240 in the previous five years.<

>Top secret files reveal UFO sightings over Manchester

Amazing details of UFO sightings over Manchester are revealed in top-secret files made public today. One report includes sketches of a giant UFO the size of 20 football pitches spotted in the sky over the city - just hours after two pilots {Stunden danach und damit unabhängig davon!} saw a mystery craft hurtle past their packed jet as it headed to Manchester. The incidents are among hundreds of sightings revealed in files released by the Ministry of Defence and National Archives. They include more than 5,000 pages of UFO reports, letters and drawings between 1995 and 2003.

In the Manchester jet incident, on January 6, 1995, pilot Captain Roger Wills and co-pilot First Officer Mark Stuart both saw the lit object fly past their aircraft at high speed {!}. A report from the Commercial Air Transport Airmiss Reports, revealed that the first officer ´ducked´ as it went by. It reads: "It made no attempt to deviate from its course and no sound was heard or wake felt. He felt certain he saw a solid object - not a bird, balloon or kite." Air traffic control records show ´no known traffic at the time´ and ´no radar contacts´ were seen as the BA flight 5061 flew 13,000ft over the Pennines from Milan {! They said they had virtually ruled out it being a hang-glider, para-glider or microlight and there was no evidence of any military activity, meaning the incident would remain ´unsolved´ {!

Other reports include a sketch of a dark triangular-shaped craft spotted over Cuddington, Cheshire, at about 1pm on January 11, 1998. The MoD sent a letter back to the eyewitness confirming there had been ´no other reports of UFO sightings´. The authority added: "We are satisfied there is no corroborating evidence to suggest the UK airspace was breached by unauthorised military aircraft." The files feature a letter from the MoD to then Tatton MP Martin Bell, who had contacted them on behalf of a constituent who claimed to see a UFO hovering over Hartford, Cheshire, on July 9, 2000. The letter said the department believed there were ´rational explanations´ and they would not divert resources to every report, unless there was evidence of a ´potential threat´ to Britain.

Nick Pope, a former MoD civil servant who worked on the official UFO files, said: "Whatever you believe about UFOs, there´s some fascinating material in these real life X-Files."

Der englische UFO-Forscher Ian Ridpath war da auch schon dran ("From the captain´s description, the object sounds like a bright fireball"), siehe http://www.ianridpath.com/ufo/astro... .

>Churchill ´Covered Up RAF UFO Encounter´

Winston Churchill ordered a cover up of a {!} reported close encounter between an RAF aircraft and a UFO {Foo Fighter} during the Second World War because it would create "mass panic", accordingly to newly-released files. The claim that the then Prime Minister ordered details of the unexplained incident over the East Coast be kept secret was made by a {anonymen} scientist who said his grandfather was one of Churchill´s bodyguards {jetziges Hörensagen zu ´Es war einmal...´}. The tale is told in newly declassified Ministry of Defence UFO files put online by the National Archives. Allegations of the cover-up emerged when the man, from Leicester, wrote to the Government in 1999 {!} trying to find out more about the incident. He described how his grandfather, who served with the RAF in the war, was present when Churchill and US General Dwight Eisenhower discussed how to deal with the UFO encounter. The man, who is not named in the files, said Churchill exclaimed: "This event should be immediately classified since it would create mass panic amongst the general population and destroy one´s belief in the church."

The incident allegedly involved an RAF reconnaissance plane returning from a mission in France or Germany towards the end of the war. "Although this story was told by the man to his wife who told the man´s grandson, there may be a grain of truth in it," Dr David Clarke, author of the UFO files told Sky News Online, "because we know Churchill had an interest in UFOs." The wartime leader was in fact the first person to answer a question on the subject in Parliament when, as First Lord of the Admiralty, he was quizzed about an unusual sighting off Sheerness. "It was in 1912 and everyone was getting nervous about the Germans," said Dr Clarke. "The question was about an unusual sighting off the coast and MPs wanted to know if it was a German zeppelin. The answer was ´Apparently not´. The mystery remains."

The traditional view of a UFO

Dr Clarke added that many people want to believe in UFOs and, even when the Government discloses what it knows about them, the chances are someone will be crying "conspiracy theory". "We want to believe in them and that´s why people remain fascinated," he continued. "And, while undoubtedly, most strange sightings can be explained, there are still strange events that cannot be accounted for."

In the Second World War, for instance, pilots from all sides reported unusual sightings, telling of unaccountable flashes of light and being followed by strange airborne objects. "The Americans used to refer to them as ´foo fighters´," he says, "I think after a famous cartoon character and from where, I imagine, the rock band took their name. "The US pilots used to talk about objects that circled them around during their flights, with flashing lights and changes of direction that did not fit in with possible enemy patterns. The British and the Germans also reported such sightings. "It´s hard not to wonder if something´s out there."<

Im TV-Kasten der Sky-News war diese Live-Sendung - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp6j... .

Die ´Lancashire Evening Post´ ( http://www.lep.co.uk/news/local/mp_... ) meldete dann vorab unter der Headline "MP Nigel and the ex-X Files" dies:

>For years top secret documents containing claims of UFO sightings and unexplained events have been hidden away from the public view {wegen ihrer Jahresjährungsfrist bis zur öffentlichen Freigabe}. But today, thousands of Ministry of Defence documents have been de-classified and published, including reams of enquiries lodged with Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans. The documents, which have been transferred to the National Archives, show that during the mid-1990s Mr Evans received a variety of letters from his constituents asking him to find out about sightings and phenomena they {! - was dem einen sein unerklärliches ´Phänomen´ ist, ist für den anderen nebenan keines; die Frage ist immer: Für wem ist was unerklärlich, und hauptsächlich WARUM} could not explain.

Among the inquiries were letters from people who claimed to have witnessed a flying object or plane crashing off Morecambe Bay, in October 1996, and a claim made by a Preston resident who believed he had seen a similar occurrence off the Island of Lewis, in Scotland. One letter read: "In reference to my correspondence regarding the Lewis Island incident, I would like to add some further information about the strange happenings on the night of 26 Oct 1996. On that evening, an earth tremor was felt in Lancashire, and Morecambe had a large power cut. A lot of people are asking if there is a connection. Also, on November 17 1996, there was another incident over Preston when five people witnessed a large triangular UFO south of the town. Five days later a large, silent aircraft was observed being intercepted just after 6pm east of Preston. Can you ask the Minister of Defence for an explanation? Are the Americans testing a new aircraft?"

The documents include a response to a parliamentary enquiry lodged by Mr Evans, which "confirms there were no recorded incidents of unauthorised military incursions of UK airspace on 17 and 22 November 1997." There was also a response from John Spellar MP, who was the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence. He wrote: "We believe that down to earth explanations could be found for these reports, such as aircraft, lights or natural phenomena, if resources were diverted for this purpose, but it would be an inappropriate use of defence resources to provide this kind of aerial identification service {!!!}. I should wish to assure people that the integrity of the United Kingdom´s airspace in peacetime is maintained through continuous policing of the UK Air Defence Region by the Royal Air Force, which remains vigilant for any potential military threat."

Speaking after the release of the documents, Mr Evans said the subject of UFOs holds a great interest. He said: "It is a fascinating subject {in der SF-UFO-Fassung wie Presse, Hollywood und UFOlogen sie betreiben!}} people like to think there is something out there {klar bei den Bildern zum Thema der UFO-Industrie seit über 60 Jahren}. If there is life out there I would be delighted if they chose the North West of England {klar kommen die anderen - sogar intelligenten - Lebewesen z.B. aus Europa gerne auch nach Nordengland als Touristen etc vorbei, keine Bange!}."<

. Diese öffentliche UFO-Runde im Fight Neo-UFOloge Clarke vs. Exologe Pope hatte eindeutig DC gewonnen!
