System U.F.O./U.F.O.-Agenda 2010: For Your Eyes Only - eine Menge heiße Luft!

... Was ist wichtig - und was nicht. Was will man - und was ´kann´ man nicht. Begreife dies mal wieder wer will...

>Ottery UFO alert!

UFO sightings in East Devon have prompted eye-witness reports of odd phenomena in the skies over Ottery. Ian Turner, of Canon Way, Exeter, claimed to have twice seen UFOs when he was in the region over the festive season, and had a close encounter of the third kind on Boxing Day when he spotted objects "hovering" over Ottery. He said the UFOs made no noise, were orange in colour, with an orange flashing light in the middle.

"They were obvious to the naked eye and purposeful in their flight path," said Mr Turner, who saw the strange phenomena again on New Year´s Eve- this time following the M5 motorway "travelling five times as fast as the red arrows. I actually telephoned Exeter Airport on Boxing Day and they got back to me and took me very seriously, however, they informed me that due to our Government closing down the department that investigates these occurrences we have to contact the police."

+ Have had a close encounter? Don´t ´phone home´- e-mail the Herald at [email protected].<

>UFO mystery in skies over Burbage

As Dean and Lorraine Seyman celebrated the New Year, they suddenly realised they could be having some unexpected guests. As the couple from Burbage were enjoying the fireworks just after midnight, they spotted more than 25 UFOs filling the night sky. And as the unknown objects continued on their course, Dean and Lorraine managed to take some pictures and a video of the event above their home in Beechwood Avenue. Dean told the Times exactly what happened on that eerie night. "We went to the patio doors as the fireworks had just started and it was a crystal clear sky, full moon, and about four stars in the sky," he said.

"We were just standing there and then all of a sudden this bright orange orb - a fuzzy fireball almost - was coming out of nowhere. It didn´t change speed, it didn´t flash, nothing, and just continued at the same speed going in the direction of the A5. Then another one came at a different altitude and then some more and they were all staggered in a formation. There were two, then four, then six and then we counted 26 over the hour. They were coming from three different directions in the end but were all heading to the same point. It looked like an invasion! They were in controlled flight and there was nothing random about it at all. There was no noise at all either. It was incredible."

And despite ridicule from friends and family, Dean is adamant that he had witnessed something not of this world. He said: "I was sceptical myself about this sort of thing until I saw these. They were all absolutely identical to each other and all going at the same speed. We couldn´t believe it but we expected it to be all over the news with other people seeing it, but nothing. We expected loads of people to have seen it from others looking up at the fireworks. Someone else must have seen them with the sky being so clear. We would love to know what they are."

>Liffey on Mars - Amazing footage of a UFO has been taken in Ireland - as The Sun re-launches the nation´s X-Files.

A triangular formation of lights was filmed flying at night at "incredible speed". Experts reckon the sighting near the River Liffey in Dublin could be a secret aircraft - or spacecraft {dies anzunehmen - dafür gibt es jenseits einer psychokulturellen Konditionierung deswegen gar keinen Grund!}. Nick Pope, who probed mystery sightings for the MoD for three years, said: "The video seems to have been taken through a night scope and presumably shows things not visible to the naked eye. It appears to show a structured craft {was man durchaus von einem Flugzeug annehmen soll} moving at incredible speed {= ergibt sich offenkundig nur durch den normal-kleinen und reduzierten Feldausschnitt des Restlichtverstärkers, wodurch natürlich es wirkt als gehe ein Flieger schnell durch das ´Gesichtsfeld´}. The configuration of the lights is unlike any aircraft {Deltaflügler sollen mit ihren gepfeilten Flügeln so aber aussehen - unwohnt ist nur die Ansicht für den Bürohengst durch das Grün des Restlichtverstärkers!} I´ve ever seen. It´s either some secret prototype aircraft or drone, or something considerably more exotic."

Dublin ... UFO was spotted near the River Liffey

Any sightings in Britain will NOT be officially recorded because the MoD last month axed the department probing mystery threats. Chiefs branded the £50,000-a-year department an "inappropriate use of defence resources". It came despite the near TRIPLING of alleged UFOs between 2008 and last year´s 643.

The Sun will pick up the baton, and release a rundown of your sightings, like the MoD used to. Nick said: "The MoD´s decision was bizarre. While I´m sure they´ll investigate sightings from pilots and anything unusual on radar, the public had nowhere to go. There´s massive public interest in this issue. If there´s something unusual in our skies, we need to know or we could be leaving ourselves open to terrorist attack." The MoD defended its decision to shut the UFO division. A spokesman said: "We do not feel there is any military value in reviewing the public´s sightings."

The Sun X Files

Expert Nick Pope says it´s vital for our security to log sightings - and he will review yours. Da bleibt einem die Spucke in Sachen frecher Pseudo-´Argumentation´ weg: Gibt es kein MoD-UFO-Büro mehr sind wir "...be leaving ourselves open to terrorist attack..." !

>Skydiving wingsuit record: Jumpers mistaken for a UFO

Casting a kaleidoscope of colour against a cloud-filled sky, these jumpers boldly plummet towards a skydiving record. The 68 daredevils came together in a near-perfect diamond to make up America´s largest ever wingsuit formation. Wingsuits are specially adapted bodywear that give added control during skydives. With flaps of material running across the gaps between their arms and legs the suits increase drag and allow the wearer to glide like a flying squirrel. Recordbreakers: The 68 skydivers completed their feat over Lake Elsinore in California to raise thousands of dollars for charity. The record-breakers - who came from 16 different countries - jumped from four planes at 13,000 feet over Lake Elsinore, California.

President of the group behind the American record, Raise the Sky, Taya Weiss, 32, said that some onlookers had even mistaken them for a UFO. She said: ´The jump lasted for over a minute, with the whole formation travelling approximately two-and-a-half-miles across the ground.  After a full year of holding skills camps and smaller records all over the world, each jumper on this formation had to be qualified before being allowed to join the team.  We did 15 jumps at this event, seven of which were using all four planes together, before achieving the record.  The team had to be up and eating breakfast at the dropzone by 6am every morning for a dawn start. We practice the formation on the ground before we jump. It´s a lot of hard work, but the results are beautiful and inspiring, and very worth it.´

Is it a bird...? The divers swoop low over Lake Elsinore before opening their parachutes. The spectacular aerial images were shot by British cameraman Mark Harris, who wore a helmet-mounted camera while flying a wingsuit on his back underneath the group. Brave Taya added: ´It is the standing US National Record for Largest Wingsuit Formation, certified by the United States Parachute Association. Wingsuit skydiving is still relatively new, so although a growing number of countries certify wingsuit records, we have not yet been recognised by the Federation Aeronautique International.  If they give us the go-ahead, we can start setting official world records, including as many countries as possible.´ Raise the Sky is a not for profit organisation founded in 2009. It seeks to have every skydiving record associated with raising money and awareness for a good cause.

This wingsuit record raised $5000 for the charity City Year, which provides mentoring to keep underprivileged children in school.  ´We drop out of planes to keep kids from dropping out of school,´ said Taya.<

>UFO papers to be made public

Hundreds of pages of secret files on New Zealand UFO sightings will be released by the military this year. The files include reports of UFO sightings from 1979 to 1984 and references to the Kaikoura sighting of December 1978. The files are held by Archives New Zealand and were to have been made public this month, but the Defence Force is removing personal information from them to comply with the Privacy Act. "At the moment we are working on making copies of these files, minus the personal information," a Defence Force spokeswoman said. "Once this work is completed, we are hoping to be able to release a copy of all the UFO files, including some ahead of their release time, within the year."

Lights were seen in the sky over Kaikoura in December 1978 and were filmed by an Australian news crew. Aircraft tracked the lights, which were also seen on radar. A man who worked for the Transport Ministry´s civil aviation division when the Kaikoura lights were seen said he would like to see the government files. The man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he was working at Christchurch International Airport at the time. He saw United States Air Force planes with unusual call signs touring the area and believes the full story about the lights has not been disclosed. "For the US Air Force to come all that way and spend three days here, there must have been something going on," he said.

The Press sought any Defence Force files on UFO sightings under the Official Information Act in August last year. The Defence Force said the request "would require a substantial amount of collation, research and consultation to identify whether any of that information could be released" and it was "not in a position to deploy staff to undertake that task". It said public files on UFO sightings were available from Archives New Zealand. The Press requested access to those files from Archives New Zealand, but was not able to see them as they had been borrowed by the Defence Force. The director of research group UFOCUS NZ, Suzanne Hansen, said she was frustrated by the delayed release but understood the privacy reasons. "We have been in discussion with the New Zealand Defence Force for many years ... It is frustrating from a research perspective because we would like to collate these sightings with international research." She said some sightings could have been alien technology. "There are cases that are certainly not our technology. It has been scientifically proven that this is entirely possible."

New Zealand Skeptics chairwoman Vicki Hyde said the secret files would not be as interesting as they appeared. "Governments all around the world have these kind of files and they are not as exciting as you might possibly hope. The Government is required to log these things and it can give a false impression that there is a vast amount of activity out there. There is probably intelligent life elsewhere, but whether it has come here to play silly buggers with us in a game of cosmic hide and seek is another matter. It is a big jump from `there was something in the sky and I don´t know what it was´ to `that was a craft piloted by aliens´." She said most sightings could be of mundane things such as satellites and flocks of birds.<

>Almost-close encounter: Meteorite hits Lorton doctor´s office

Much later, after the hole in the roof had been fixed and the debris cleaned up, after the cause of the damage finally had become clear, Frank Ciampi wondered: What are the odds? He is a doctor. He has worked for 18 years in the two-story building in Lorton that houses the Williamsburg Square Family Practice, in the 9500 block of Richmond Highway. He spends his days walking in and out of examining rooms, seeing patients. What are the chances, as he goes about his routine, that he´ll get hit by a meteorite?

Not impossible.

It almost happened. "I was in my office doing charts," Ciampi recalled. It was Monday, a little after 5:30 p.m. He was on the building´s second floor. "And I heard a loud boom, almost like a small explosion." At first, he said, he thought a bookcase had toppled nextdoor. "So I ran toward the office. And then I saw all the debris in the hallway," he said. The floor just outside examination room No. 2 -- about 10 feet from where Ciampi had been doing paperwork -- was littered with small pieces of wood, plaster and insulation. Upon inspection, more debris lay inside the room. He saw three chunks of stone on the floor that together formed a rock about the size of a tennis ball, with a glassy-smooth surface. Then he saw a hole about the size of the rock in the tile ceiling, and a tear in the maroon carpet where the rock had landed.

"The first thing we thought was maybe something had fallen from a plane," Ciampi said. For most of the day, the 10 examination rooms used by Ciampi and two other medical professionals in the practice had been occupied by patients. Had the falling object crashed through the ceiling a little earlier, it might have killed someone. "I thank God," Ciampi said. Later, he said, "I was up all night, wondering what it was." No one else in the practice could figure it out, either. Then on Tuesday, the office manager, Rhonda Lawrence, offered a suggestion from her husband Jeffrey, who has a background in geology.

"Jeff said that maybe it was a meteorite," Ciampi said. "We didn´t think of that. You know, a meteorite -- that´s not the first thing you think of." Cari Corrigan, a planetary scientist at the Smithsonian Institution´s Museum of Natural History, confirmed it. "It´s beautiful," she gushed on Wednesday, after examining the rock. "The first thing we look at is what´s called the fusion crust on the outside," she said. "It´s kind of a black, shiny coating, because when it passes through the atmosphere, it´s melting a little at a time. So it´s like an outer layer of glass, of melted rock." That, plus flecks of metal in the rock, confirmed it had come from space, she said.

Corrigan said small meteorites hit Earth "fairly often." "We´re bombarded by stuff like that all the time," she said. Since most of the planet´s surface is uninhabited, most meteorites land a long, long way from people. And most of those that do hit inhabited areas go unnoticed, she said. Every now and then, though, there´s a landing like the one in Lorton. She said the meteorite weighs just over a half pound and probably was traveling about 220 mph when it hit the building. If the folks at the medical practice want her to, Corrigan said, she will submit the stone to the Meteorite Nomenclature Committee. "They´ll give it an official name and an official description and it´ll go on the books as being an official meteorite," she said. "I would imagine it would be called the Lorton, Va., Meteorite, or something like that."<
