Jetzt aber läuft es zunehmend schief, ein weiterer US-UFO-Mythos wird in Zement gegossen. Der ´Houston Chronicle´ berichtete unter http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl... und der Headline "No kidding, but I believe I just saw a flying saucer: Despite ridicule, more people are reporting UFO sightings" uns dies:

>Would you laugh if I said I had seen a UFO? A pilot, county constable and business owners were listed as the witnesses for the recent UFO sighting in Stephenville. However, Ken Cherry, Texas state director of the Mutual Unidentified Flying Object Network, said the reports coming out of Stephenville indicate people are becoming more comfortable admitting they´ve seen a UFO. "In terms of the number of witnesses, this is an unusual event," Cherry said.

He noted that the Stephenville area is the heart of the Bible Belt, and MUFON held its fact-finding forum Saturday in Dublin, which is a dry county. "These people are church-going, sober hard-working individuals and probably the last thing in the world that they think about is sitting down and watching an episode of Star Trek or some sci-fi program, yet they´ve managed to find us," Cherry said. "I´d say a very small percentage of people who see things actually report (it), and yet we´ve just received a flood of reports. Scores and scores of people have seen it, and they are pretty vocal about it. They don´t mind talking to me about it at length."

Jim Sparks, author of ´The Keepers: An Alien Message for the Human Race´ (Granite Publishing, $24), said when you see a UFO, you believe. Plus, people are more apt to come forward when there are several witnesses. Sparks´ alien abduction experiences began in 1988 while he was living in Sugar Land, and he knew he faced ridicule when he told his story. "I can´t blame people. A lot of people are just plain scared," he said. It´s human nature to fear rejection, Sparks said, and he said a culture of government disinformation labels anyone who claims to see a UFO to be a liar or crazy. {Was aber alles auch nichts das Geringste mit den Sichtungen in Stephenville zu tun hat!}

Gail Brittain of Pasadena is president of the Houston UFO Club, which was organized to support abductees. She said she doesn´t worry about ridicule. "To hell with them. I don´t care what people think about me. I know what my world is like. I´m sane," Brittain said. "There are so many kooks, but our club isn´t kooky." John Greenewald Jr., author of ´Beyond UFO Secrecy´ (The Black Vault, $34) said there are UFO sightings all the time, and he wonders if the media has discovered that UFO news draws big numbers to their Web sites, which in turn leads to more coverage of reports. Richard Dolan, author of ´UFOs and the National Security State´ (Hampton Roads Publishing, $18.95), is not convinced that UFO reports are getting more mainstream acceptance. "I think people in general are afraid of ridicule very much to this day," Dolan said. "Think about how Dennis Kucinich has handled the UFO thing. He got outed by Shirley MacLaine (in her book ´Sage-Ing While Age-Ing´) and would not talk about it at all until he was pressed against the wall. "And poor Bill Richardson got reamed by (MSNBC´s) Chris Matthews on television when he came out. Matthews really, really tore him to pieces."

When NBC News´ Tim Russert asked the Ohio representative during October´s Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia about the sighting, Kucinich said, "It was an unidentified flying object, OK? It´s, like, it´s unidentified. I saw something." Afterward Internet buzz went crazy calling Kucinich crazy. Richardson, who is governor of New Mexico and a former Democratic presidential candidate, told Matthews that he promotes Roswell, N.M., as a UFO tourist attraction. He said he hasn´t seen a UFO, but he wants the federal government to declassify all the information about the infamous 1947 Roswell crash. "There always will be ridicule", said Dolan, "who hasn´t seen a UFO but has received some jabs since he was bitten by the UFO bug about 15 years ago. Fortunately for me that´s really never been an issue that´s affected me. I´m pretty secure in what I´m about, and if people want to laugh, they can laugh."

Dolan said he has interviewed 500 to 700 witnesses. "All I can do is ask people to be as explicit as they can be. In most of these cases they don´t seem like they are hoaxing. They seem like they are rational," he said. "So you´re really left with a situation where a really rational, clear-thinking person is describing something that is not supposed to exist. That´s what the UFO mystery is. What I´m more interested in is the amazing, well-plugged-in people that I have had the privilege to meet as a result of this research. They may not be shouting their interest in this topic from the rooftop, but at a private level they are very deeply interested, and some of them claim to have been briefed on the topic," Dolan said. "The thing is, if it is a topic of national security implications, then you would assume that people are not just going to start blabbing around."<

Gegen Mittag verbreitete UPI aus Amerika diese Agenturmeldung, die einfach einen falschen Eindruck hinterlässt und das Geschehen ebenso mit falschen Vorstellung in der Erinnerung zurücklässt:

The incident occurred Jan. 8 when several dozen people said they saw a large object flying at high speeds near the ground. The unidentified object was flashing bright lights, which changed configurations as it flew, the witnesses said.*<

*= Genau dies ist falsch - auch wenn es von AP abgeguckt worden ist, wird es nicht wahrer (wir erinnern uns an die exklusiv in Deutschland verbreitete UFO-Pilot-Posse aus Japan, wo auch durch das Aufgreifen einer falsch-übersetzten Agenturmeldungen die nachgeschalteten Agenturen nicht ´echter´ wurden!) Es berichten eben KEINE "serveral dozen people" von "a large object flying at high speeds near the ground". Die meisten sahen eben nur mehrere orange oder rot-glühende Objekte niedrig und langsam dahinschweben, dazu noch untereinander in der Bewegung. Da entsteht also jetzt ein FALSCHES BILD VOM UFO und den Vorgängen in Stephenville, Texas. Früher, machen wir uns nichts vor, war dies bereits genauso gelaufen - und die falschen Vorstellungen setzten sich fest. Und damit komplett falsche Vorstellungen über "die UFOs" überhaupt!

Kaum eine Stunde später rief mich das Schweizer Radio an und bat in dieser Sache um ein Interview, wo ich dann zur Verblüffung des Gesprächspartners die Sache jenseits der Agenturmeldung klarstellte.

Ken Cherry, who leads the Texas chapter of the Mutual UFO Network, told the Chronicle that the latest sighting of a huge object gliding over Stephenville, Texas, drew several reports from witnesses despite the area´s conservative, Bible-Belt nature. "Scores and scores of people have seen it, and they are pretty vocal about it," Cherry said. "They don´t mind talking to me about it at length." Cherry told the newspapers the reports and publicity illustrate a trend toward witnesses telling others what they saw regardless of any personal concerns about the reaction of neighbors, employers and public officials.<

A Dublin man showed video of a strange object in the sky that he shot last summer in Stephenville. "That´s why I´m here," he said. "I want someone to tell me what it is." Most people didn´t have any pictures. "What I saw was a very large blue light," resident Jason Greywolf Leigh said. Stephenville resident James Huse said he saw big, round objects in the sky. "I would estimate they were the size of an aircraft," he said. Glenda Jackson, another Stephenville resident, said she also saw something strange in the sky. "It looked like two plates upside down, like a saucer," she said. "It was at least as wide as a football field." The meeting also drew people who just wanted to see what the hoopla was all about. MUFON members said their work could take a year. Even then, there may be no explanation for the phenomenon, they said. The investigators said it was way too early to rule anything in or out, but with so many people coming forward, the group said it is convinced people saw something.<

Bei ´net-tribune´ ( http://www.net-tribune.de/article/2... ) fand ich unter der Schlagzeile "JFK, UFOs, Watergate - Kein Respekt vor Amerikas Mythen" diesen AP-Bericht zu einem in dieser Wochen anstehenden Kinofilmstart zu "Das Vermächtnis des geheimes Buches" (das ´Making of...´ dazu lief an Sonntagnachmittag auf Pro7):

Für Schatzsucher Benjamin Gates (Nicolas Cage) spielen die großen Mythen Amerikas keine Rolle, als er in dem geheimen Buch blättert, das seit jeher von einem US-Präsidenten zum nächsten weitergereicht wird. "Es enthält die Informationen, die sie brauchen", hat der Filmheld vom FBI-Agent Sadusky (Harvey Keitel) erfahren. Dass Gates es findet, ist nur eine Station auf einer abenteuerlichen Suche, aber noch lange nicht das Ende. Dass "Das Vermächtnis des geheimen Buches" einen ebenso humorvollen wie ausgesprochen respektlosen Umgang mit den großen Nationalheiligtümern der USA pflegt, macht das neue Werk von Regisseur Jon Turteltaub zu einem vergnüglichen Stück Hollywood-Kino. Die Fortsetzung des Kassenschlagers "Das Vermächtnis der Tempelritter" von 2004 kommt am 24. Januar in die deutschen Kinos und bleibt wie der Vorgänger beim Konzept des Action-Abenteuers und bei den Hauptdarstellern, die schon zuletzt zum kommerziellen wie auch zum Heldenerfolg führten. Den Schatz der Tempelritter hatte Gates erobert. Diesmal geht es um die Ehre seiner Familie.

Der ominöse Antiquitätenhändler Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) will den Beweis gefunden haben, dass Gates´ Ururgroßvater an der Ermordung von US-Präsident Abraham Lincoln vor fast 150 Jahren beteiligt war. Damit beginnt eine turbulente Suche nach der Wahrheit, die zuweilen skurrile Züge annimmt. Das riesige steinerne Monument mit den vier Präsidentenköpfen im US-Staat South-Dakota beispielsweise sorgt als eine der aufs Korn genommenen, historischen Gedenkstätten Amerikas für Heiterkeit: "Mount Rushmore ist bloß eine Vertuschung?" fragt etwa Gates´ Mitstreiter Riley Poole (Justin Bartha). Denn im Film enthüllen die Helden, dass der Berg, auch "Schrein der Demokratie" genannt, eine ganz neue, tiefe Dimension birgt. Dazu allerdings bedarf es nur eines kleinen Handgriffs unter den richtigen Stein, um am anderen Ende des Tals einen mächtigen Felssturz auszulösen. Immer wieder erscheint die aufwendige, von Stunts und Verfolgungsjagden geprägte Rasanz wie eine augenzwinkernde Satire auf die gängige Machart von Blockbustern wie "Mission Impossible" oder James-Bond-Filme der neueren Generation. Ein Taucheranzug und ein simpler Trick gegenüber den Sicherheitskräften etwa reicht Ben Gates aus, um sich Zutritt zu einer Party des US-Präsidenten zu verschaffen. Denn Gates hat nichts Geringeres vor, als den ersten Mann im Staate zu entführen, um an die nötigen, geheimen Hinweise zu kommen, die ihn zur Wahrheit über seinen angeblich historisch belasteten Vorfahren führen.

Verschwörungstheorien

Demgegenüber waren zuvor das listige Eindringen in den Buckingham Palace in London sowie ins Washingtoner Oval Office, dem Präsidentenbüro im Weißen Haus, turbulente, doch vergleichsweise leichte Übungen geblieben. Einzig Antiquitätenhändler Wilkinson, der sich hartnäckig an Gates´ Fersen heftet, legt dem Helden immer größere Steine in den Weg, wenngleich seine Motivation lange schleierhaft bleibt. Unterstützung erfährt Gates bei alledem von der aus den "Tempelrittern" bekannten Mitstreiterin Abigail Chase (gespielt von der Deutschen Diane Kruger). Dem Zuschauer aber verlangt das Drehbuch einiges ab. Welcher der Protagonisten nach welchem neuen Hinweis auf die gesuchte Wahrheit welche neuen Pläne ausheckt, erfordert genaues Hinhören und viel Mitdenken. Insofern bleibt "Das Vermächtnis des geheimen Buches", im Originaltitel "National Treasure: Book of Secrets", nicht nur kurzweilige Abenteuerunterhaltung, sondern ein recht anspruchsvolles Spiel mit Verschwörungstheorien und rätselhaften Verstrickungen. Ob es künftig eine dritte "Vermächtnis"-Fortsetzung geben wird, hat Regisseur Turteltaub zuletzt offengelassen. Das hänge vor allem vom Kassenerfolg ab. Gemessen daran stehen die Chancen nicht schlecht. Schon beim Start in den US-Kinos zu Weihnachten löste "Das Vermächtnis des geheimen Buches" den Actionthriller "I Am Legend" mit Will Smith in der Hauptrolle an der Spitze der Kinocharts ab.<
