>A city couple were left stunned when they spotted six mysterious lights hovering in the sky above their home. And Trish and Ken Fraser now want to shed some light on the unusual phenomenon and find out exactly what they were. They saw the unidentified flying objects on Sunday, January 6, above their home in Balnacraig Road. And the Highland News has been contacted by another local resident who also saw something similar at the same time. The strange episode occurred at around 7.30pm, when the yellow coloured lights were seen moving slowly {!} from the west to the east in pairs. Trish and Ken told the Highland News they have tried to come up with a logical explanation, but said they were unlike any known aircraft and said the slow movement, lack of noise and length of time they loitered about discounted any man-made explanation. Trish (53) who captured the spectacle on her digital camera said: "I was just sitting in the conservatory and I saw the lights. At first I thought they might have been microlights, but then I realised it wasn´t that." Trish who works as an assistant at the city´s Farraline Park-based library added: "There was no sound at all and they were all an orange or yellowy light {!}. They came from the west and travelled to the east. When they got further to the east, it appeared as though they went higher into the sky.

"I have never seen anything like that before. I just think that someone else might have seen them or be able to explain what they were. They were much bigger than stars. Someone suggested it could have been a meteor storm, but I never imagined that such a thing would look like that. I don´t believe in aliens or anything like that and I don´t think that it was that, although if it was ET that would be okay." Her husband Ken (55) who has his own painting and decorating business said he had been watching the TV when Trish called him through to see the lights. He said: "A friend of ours who lives on the other side of the canal in Iona Road also saw them. They were visible for about ten minutes and then they disappeared into the distance. I thought at first it was a helicopter as we quite often get them or planes flying over but there was no noise at all. Also planes usually have the red and green lights on them and these didn´t. They came from the direction of Craig Dunain and then disappeared. I think they just got so far away that we couldn´t see them any more. We thought it could be explained away very easily, but so far we haven´t got anywhere."

A woman in the Hilton area of the city also reported seeing strange objects in the sky when she was in her garden. She said: "I saw three orange coloured lights moving across the night sky for quite a few minutes. They were really unusual and couldn´t have been plane lights because they seemed quite large in the distance and because of the way they moved and then seemed to stop and move again. There seemed to be a slight flare off them and someone suggested they might be hot air balloons. But I didn´t think that was likely at the time of night in the dark {! Pauline Macrae, a committee member with the Highland Astronomical Society was also perplexed as to what the bright lights could have been. She said: "I really don´t know what this could have been {!}. I can´t offer an explanation. There was nothing astronomical at that time unless they were satellites." The Highland News contacted RAF Kinloss and Inverness Airport to see if any aircraft could have been in the area at around 7.30pm on Sunday, January 6. However both the RAF and Nat Anderson, a spokesman for Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd, said no aircraft were flying at that time in that area.<

"Help sought over ´bright light´" berichtete kurz die BBC ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/eu... ): >The Astronomy section of a Guernsey conservation group is appealing for help to identify a possible UFO. La Societe Guernesiaise wants to hear from anyone who saw a bright object creating a greenish light in the sky at about 2257 GMT on Tuesday. David Le Conte from La Societe is looking to gather more information to find out exactly what the object was. He is asking anyone who saw the object to contact him on 264847 so the society can try and identity it.< Warum sind wir nur besser informiert als die BBC?

>UFO spotted in Hastings

. Der Radiosender ´San Angelo Live´ nahm sich ebenfalls in einem längeren Beitrag ("UFO Sightings in Stephenville, Texas, Keep the City and Nation Abuzz") der Sache an und interviewte Steve Hudgeons von MUFON-Texas, höre unter http://www.sanangelolive.com/node/2... . Whether or not that was a UFO buzzing Erath County last week, the lights have certainly come this week - television lights" ( http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcon... !

"Pilot Says He Can Explain Stephenville UFO Sightings" meldete inzwischen NBC aus Dallas/Ft.Worth ( http://www.nbc5i.com/news/15069744/... ):

>A Fort Worth medical helicopter pilot said he knows what caused the strange lights that appeared in the sky near Stephenville last week. Chuck Mueller was flying a medical helicopter from a Fort Worth hospital, heading south just after sunset last Thursday. He said he saw unusual lights on the horizon near Granbury. "We were maybe five minutes into the flight when we saw the lights come on, one little orange light, and then another one and another one in sequence across the sky {!}," he said. His description is similar to what a county constable and dozens of others in Stephenville had described seeing two nights earlier.

"And it was something that I´d never seen before," Mueller said. "And I looked at the medic and he looked at me, and we were like, ´What was that?´" Muller, a former Army pilot in Iraq, said an explanation "kind of hit" him. "I´ll bet that was an airplane dropping flares, dispensing flares as he was flying along," he said. "It all makes sense. The color was right {aber auch für die ´kleineren´ und lichtschwächeren MHBs!}." Stephenville is close to the Brownwood Military Operations Area, a major training area for fighter jets. Other witnesses said they would like to believe Mueller´s theory, but it doesn´t answer all of their questions. "But it doesn´t explain these little lights," Erath County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan said. "And then the thing about it is just the speed." They said the lights zipped across the sky at lightning speed {? "An airplane can´t do that," Gaitan said. "A helicopter can´t do that." An Air Force spokesman at Fort Worth´s Joint Reserve Base said there were no military planes at all in the area last Tuesday {!}.<

The witnesses reported to NUFORC that they had been witness to the object of interest for anywhere from an estimated three, to fifteen, minutes. Also, the object was seen to hover.

>Thanks to dozens of reports of a strange, silent object over the town about 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth, UFO stories have filled newscasts, newspapers and online reports around the world. "Dozens in Texas Town Report Seeing UFO," read an online headline for The Washington Post. "Multiple reports of UFO-like sighting in Texas town," proclaimed Canada´s CBC News. UFO photos were among the top Yahoo searches this morning, along with Katie Holmes and Prince William´s girlfriend. The reported sightings have become a catalyst on blogs and in chat rooms, triggering scientific and philosophical debates, religious inquiries, conspiracy charges and bad Texas jokes. "It´s amazing how this has taken on an international profile," said Kenneth Cherry, president of the Texas chapter of the Mutual UFO Network. "I´ve had calls from Japanese and British newspapers. I´m supposed to be doing Larry King Live on Friday." All this attention is not enough, says one group in New York, which believes this should be a top issue for the presidential candidates. But in Stephenville, a dairy town of 15,000, most people just thought the UFO sightings were fun.

´Interesting today´ - A UFO is parked outside a Stephenville business. "It´s been interesting today," said Treva Thompson with the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce. "My son and some of his friends made helmets out of tinfoil and are walking around town." City Secretary Cindy Stafford has been going about town in a green alien mask. Some high school students are making alien T-shirts. One automobile dealership put up a sign saying UFOs could be traded in there. It´s not that people are making fun of those who say they saw a UFO, said Sara Vanden Berge, managing editor of the Stephenville Empire-Tribune. With such a small population, the witnesses, including county Constable Leroy Gaitan, are too well-known. It´s just that aliens are a fun and welcome change from cowboys and rodeos. "There are some people who are taking it very seriously," Vanden Berge said. "But there is a large group of people having a good time with it. They are just having fun with the idea." Others across the country are also having fun with the idea.

Some of the comments on the Internet and airwaves over the past couple of days: Why did the Stephenville resident cross the road? To get to the other UFO. Is the UFO over Stephenville looking for Jewel and Tasty BBQ? (The singer Jewel has been connected with legendary rodeo competitor and Stephenville resident Ty Murray.) President Bush has hired real aliens to get rid of the illegal human aliens.

Taking it seriously. Not amused by the jokes is Dennis Balthaser, UFO researcher and former director of Roswell´s International UFO Museum and Research Center. "Once again the media is not taking this seriously, and that makes it difficult to investigate," Balthaser said. Supporting this idea is the Washington-based Paradigm Research Group, which dedicates itself to getting the federal government to acknowledge and disclose information about extraterrestrials on Earth. This week it renewed its long call for the mainstream media to take the issue seriously, saying it should demand answers from the presidential candidates regarding the issue. The group says it has compiled 1,700 news accounts of UFOs since 1947. "What you discover is the local and regional press covered the issue pretty straight," executive director Stephen Bassett said. "The phenomena is laid out. But when it comes to the top tier -- the major networks and papers of record in the U.S. -- they have not done their job." The problem is obvious, says one responder to a news blog: The media is conspiring with the government to keep the existence of UFOs a secret. One post from South Carolina offered a different idea: "I don´t know y´all, but it seems to me like a tourist attraction scam."

Spiritual questions: Is God an alien? Can a Christian believe in UFOs? Aren´t UFOs mentioned in the Bible? Questions like these have become popular as some struggle to reaffirm their place in the universe. That is as it should be, said C. Scott Littleton, professor of anthropology at Occidental College in Los Angeles. "People have been seeing anomalous objects in the sky for millennia, but for the most part they -- and their occupants -- have been perceived as gods, demons," Littleton said. "Indeed, I suspect that most if not all of our religions evolved to ´explain´ these otherwise inexplicable phenomena." Believing or not believing in UFOs is not so much a concern, said James K. Walker, president of the Watchman Fellowship, an evangelical group based in Arlington that debunks cults. What is a concern are those rare instances in which unexplained phenomena result in the formation of a religious group or cult that professes to offer spiritual guidance, then spins off -- for whatever reason -- in a destructive pattern. "When they go off the deep end, they can take a bunch of people with them." He mentioned the 1997 case in which Marshall Applewhite, leader of the Heaven´s Gate cult, persuaded followers to commit suicide so their souls could ride on a spaceship trailing Comet Hale-Bopp. Telepathic channeling with aliens is a common feature of UFO-based cults, said Walker, who included several UFO cults -- Chen Tao in Garland, Armageddon Tim Ark Base in Weslaco, the Raelians of Southern California to name a few -- in his recent book, The Concise Guide to Today´s Religions And Spirituality. "Faith is a good thing," the "unapologetically Christian" Walker said. "The object of your faith is what makes all the difference."

Report a UFO - The Texas chapter of the Mutual UFO Network plans to begin interviewing witnesses at 1 p.m. Saturday in a meeting room in downtown Dublin near the Dr Pepper plant. To report a sighting, call MUFON State Director Kenneth Cherry at 817-379-0773 or fill out a report form at www.mufon.com.<

Verwendet wurde hier ein Foto (siehe unser Bild) von Frau Stadtministerin Cindy Stafford in rotem Kostüm und mit einer grünen Alien-Maske auf dem Kopf, Begleittext: "Stephenville residents are having some fun with their recent reports of UFOs in their fair city. Here, it seems an alien life form has taken over city hall."

) ein, weil an Ort die Geschichte inzwischen halbwegs roswellianische Züge bekam: > Stephenville, Texas, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Dozens of reported UFO sightings in Stephenville, Texas, have sparked massive media attention world wide, which the town is capitalizing on. Top searches on Yahoo! Wednesday included UFO images and have been the subject of many blogs, chat room conversations, scientific debates and jokes about Texas sightings, the Fort Worth (Texas) Star-Telegram reported. "It´s amazing how this has taken on an international profile," Kenneth Cherry, president of the Mutual UFO Network in Texas, said. High school students in the town have reportedly been making T-shirts bearing the likeness of extraterrestrials while a car dealership posted a sign that said it would take UFOs for trade-ins {!}. Reporters from Stephenville have said the town´s residents are having a good time with the UFO sightings. "Once again the media is not taking this seriously and that makes it difficult to investigate," UFO expert Dennis Balthaser told the Star-Telegram.

>How could the UFO sighting in Stephenville, Texas happen with no one getting any video and or any kind of images? There were no photos released of a craft that has been described as enormous. Some say it was a mile wide and they all got a good look but until now there have been no photos released. However, there is one photo that has now been released by a local Fox news station and they have posted the picture on their website. Sunset Photo May Contain UFO Image (See Link - http://www.myfoxkc.com/myfox/pages/... ). A report from My Fox Austin has a photo that will make many even more skeptical but nonetheless will likely become a part of the investigation. The photo was not taken in Stephenville, it was taken in Central Texas but the news report seems to try and link the events together. The photos show a beautiful sunset and an object that is in between two clouds {direkt vor der Sonne als besonderen ´black sun´-Effekt durch den übersteuerten Chip der Kamera bei der Gegenlichtaufnahme}. The background sun is very bright so it is impossible to tell what the object is. The man that took the photos is named Virgil Fowler and he wasn´t out looking to snap strange objects or lights in the sky, he was just snapping away at the sunset {im Video ist zu sehen, das er das ´Objekt´ nicht selbst sah, sondern erst später am Rechner entdeckte, als er die Bilder dort auflud!}. At least 40 people have reported sightings of the Stephenville unidentified flying object, which reportedly appeared in the sky just after 6 p.m. on Jan. 8. The local Fox report is rather incomplete as it doesn´t say what day the photos were taken by Fowler. It should be interesting what develops as investigators zoom in and scrutinize the first photo.<

Auch der Regional-TV-Sender KSLA-TV-DT 12 aus Shreveport, Louisina*, meldete unter http://www.ksla.com/Global/story.as... : "Webster Parish - What´s in the air over Webster Parish/Columbia, AR?" und berichtete dies (der TV-News-Bericht selbst ist hier zu finden - http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=vy9kk... ):

>A Webster parish woman is trying to determine what it is she caught on video tape last Tuesday night. The woman who does not want to be identified says the object was flying low about 400 feet high, and was hovering. She says it made no noise until it actually moved past her. She says there were several lights on either side and a strobe light underneath it. She says the object moved from Columbia, Arkansas into Webster Parish before moving on. She adds it was shaped like a stealth bomber only more curved. The woman says she doesn´t believe in UFO´s but would like to know what it is she saw that had all of the lights on it.

So we called in an expert, Lee Gunther who works at the Shreveport airport. He says with it being so dark he can´t determine what kind but says its probably a plane. "A twin engine airplane with it´s lights on at night." When asked about the hovering, he says, "Airplanes don´t hover. And helicopters, don´t have wings" ruling out the possibility of it being a chopper. He also says it´s not a blimp because blimps lights are not that spread apart.<
